One question to ask your parent this Thanksgiving

“Do you need any help?” almost always gets a no, because saying yes can feel like giving something up. Try this instead.

Ask this

“What’s one thing that’s gotten harder this year?”

Then just listen.

After you ask

Three small things that help

1

Just listen

Don’t fix it at the table. It might be the stairs, driving at night, keeping up with bills or something you’d never guess.

2

Ask who else should know

A sibling, a neighbour, a friend. That way it doesn’t all land on one person.

3

Let your parent lead

Ask what would make it a little easier, then let your parent decide what happens next.
